Entresto 100 mg – 28 Tablets

Entresto is a prescription medication used to treat heart failure. It contains two active ingredients: Sacubitril and Valsartan.

Entresto belongs to a class of medications known as Angiotensin Receptor-Neprilysin Inhibitors (ARNIs). Sacubitril inhibits the enzyme Neprilysin, helping to dilate blood vessels and promote the elimination of excess sodium and water. Valsartan blocks the effects of angiotensin II, helping to lower blood pressure and reduce the workload on the heart.

Each Entresto 100 mg tablet contains 49 mg of Sacubitril and 51 mg of Valsartan.

Indications

• Treatment of symptomatic chronic heart failure in adults, particularly heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

• Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular death in eligible patients with heart failure.

• Reduction of hospitalization due to worsening heart failure.

• Helps improve heart failure symptoms, such as shortness of breath and fatigue, by reducing the workload on the heart.

• Treatment of certain types of heart failure in children aged one year and older, according to medical evaluation and locally approved guidelines.

Dosage and Administration

• Usual adult dosage: One Entresto 100 mg tablet twice daily when this strength is considered appropriate by the prescribing physician.

• The 100 mg strength is a common starting dose for certain adult patients, while others may require a lower initial dose.

• The physician may gradually increase the dosage every 2–4 weeks depending on the patient’s response and tolerance.

• Usual target adult dosage: 200 mg twice daily, equivalent to 97 mg of Sacubitril and 103 mg of Valsartan per dose.

• Tablets may be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole with an adequate amount of water.

• Each package contains 28 tablets, providing a 14-day supply when taking one tablet twice daily.

• Follow the prescribed dosage and do not adjust it without consulting a physician.

Warnings and Precautions

• Contraindicated during pregnancy, as it may cause serious harm to the developing fetus.

• Must not be used simultaneously with Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. A minimum interval of 36 hours is required when switching between these treatments.

• Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema associated with ACE inhibitors or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

• May cause severe hypotension, particularly in dehydrated patients or those taking diuretics.

• Kidney function and blood potassium levels should be monitored regularly during treatment.

• Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment or liver dysfunction.

• Avoid combining Entresto with other medications containing Valsartan or other ARBs.

• Consult a physician before using potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes.

• Must not be used with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes or certain degrees of kidney impairment.

• Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.

Possible Side Effects

• Low blood pressure (hypotension).

• Dizziness and lightheadedness.

• Elevated blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia).

• Impaired kidney function.

• Cough.

• Fatigue and weakness.

• Headache.

• Nausea.

• Low blood sodium levels (hyponatremia) in some patients.

• Angioedema, a serious condition that may cause swelling of the face, lips, or tongue and difficulty breathing, requiring immediate medical attention.
